Creator: Grip P. & P. Co.
Subject: llustrated War News, 1885 Resistance, Métis
Description: this page, (pg. 58, The Canadian Pictorial & Illustrated War News, May 23, 1885), correspondents write about events that took place during the 1885 Resistance including information relating to the military campaign. Writers also provide contextual information relating to images that are part of this collection. There is also a reprinting of an intercepted letter that was allegedly written by Louis Riel regarding the Métis victory over the Mounted Police and Volunteers at the Battle of Duck Lake (March 26, 1885). The letter was intended for the Métis of the Qu’Appelle Valley and urged them to take up arms: “Let you dear friends, be courageous. Do what you can, if it not already done. Take the stores, the provisions, and the ammunition, and without delay come this way, as many of you as possibly can”. Of note on this page are advertisements that delineate late nineteenth-century tastes.
