Elementary School
On this page are clips from Jeanne, sharing stories and teachings about the late beloved Metis Elder Jim Settee.
At the bottom of this page in the Elementary Resources folder, there are follow-up templates and activities. There are also links to special collections of school student reflections on the film, gathered from schools across the province, which may give you ideas for themes or reflections
1.Welcome and Introduction
Jeanne introduces Jim’s film:
If you have younger grades, you could use just the Introduction clip, OR, if you have older grades, you could use both the Opening and Introduction clips. The Opening clip has a beautiful song written and sung by Cheryl L’Hidondelle and Joseph Naytowhow – and it is special to know that Joseph is Jim Settee’s grandson.
2. Title: Love Learning
Can you guess something very special about Jim?
3. Tower Game
Can you make up a name for this game?
4. Teeny Tiny Teaching
What does the Teeny Tiny Creature teach us?
*Dear Educators, you can check the High School series to see if there any of the other stories are applicable for your grades, other than the ones highlighted on this page, especially if you have older elementary students. The high school series is organised using time codes with the full video, so that more than one chapter can be screened at one time, without interrupting the flow by stopping after each chapter. In either case, finishing with the Tracker and Jim’s Teachings stories leads well into the follow up activities and reflections.
5. Tracker
What do you hear that helped Jim, as a tracker?
6. Jim's Teachings
In this clip, Jeanne will bring Jim’s teachings together in a special way.
If you had a matchbox, what would you put in it? You will find a special page to draw your teachings on in the Elementary Resources folder, or, you can make your own matchbox and put your special teachings inside of it.
You could share this in a storytelling circle with your classmates or add to your matchbox throughout the year.
