Subject: Institut français, Identity, Language, Willow Bunch, Métis Local # 17, Racette, Calvin, Forest, Réal
Description: On September 19-21, 2008, over 250 Métis and Francophones travelled to Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan to hold a roundtable regarding issues of concern for both communities—Founding Peoples of Canada. This was the second travelling roundtable for these communities. It was for Métis and Francophones living in the southern part of the province, and was organized by the Institut français, the Assemblée communautaire fransaskoise, and Willow Bunch Métis Local #17. The event included community roundtables, general interest talks, as well as a special cultural evening featuring well-known artists from both communities. The participants worked to heal the community of Willow Bunch, which has had largely poor relations between these two communities. Containing community profiles (by Calvin Racette for the Métis and Réal Forest for Francophones, academic lectures (by Carrie Bourassa for the Métis and Wilfrid Denis for Francophones), and cultural workshops, the event also focused on cultural pride and how to develop this pride within Métis and Francophone cultures.
In this video clip, Calvin Racette and Réal Forest introduce the Métis and Francophone communities.
