He was a private in the 16th/22nd Saskatchewan Horse and the Loyal Edmonton Regiment. He served in Europe, and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal (1939-45).
