He was a private, rifleman and acting corporal and served in The Royal Winnipeg Rifles, The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Maryʼs) and The Regina Rifle Regiment. He served in England and Europe, and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, and Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal (1939-45).
