He was a private/gunner and sergeant, and served with the 217th Infantry Battalion, the Canadian Expeditionary Force, the 16th/22nd Saskatchewan Horse, and the Veterans Guard of Canada. He was awarded the British War Medal, the Victory Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal (1939-45).
