The second image – “The Relief of Battleford” – shows the Canadian Army marching into Battleford. The “siege” of Battleford by Poundmaker’s warriors captured the imagination of Canadians. On March 30, 1885, Métis and First Nations sacked the town after Lieutenant-Colonel William Otter abandoned it to attack Poundmaker’s band. |
