“The 65th Montreal Cabineers under the Command of General Strange pursued Indian Chief Big Bear and engaged him in a brisk fight with the loss of 3 men wounded. This engagement effected the release of the prisoners taken by Big Bear at the Frog Lake Massacre. The pursuit was called off and Big Bear eventually surrendered to Sgt. Smart of the N.W.M. Police.”
