Cree Squaw* with a Red River Cart and Native pony, near the Battle River Bridge

Title: Cree Squaw* with a Red River Cart and Native pony, near the Battle River Bridge
Creator: Unknown
Subject: First Nations, Red River Cart, Battle River, Horses
Description: The terminology used in this photograph’s description is racist. The Gabriel Dumont Institute does not condone or accept racist terminology in any form. However, the derogatory term “squaw” was the photograph’s original caption and was used in the past when mentioning Aboriginal women . Therefore, the Institute decided not to change this term. The image shows that Aboriginal people on the Prairies used Red River carts into the twentieth century.
